ABOUT ABBY
I love cooking, sewing, knitting...anything I can get my hands into really! I often go into a store and pick something up and think 'I could make this myself' and off I go.

I have fond memories of cooking up packet cakes as a kid and of making a batch of 'buttersugar' with my brother, when my parents were preoccupied. This aptly named concoction was simply melted butter with enough sugar mixed in to make a thick, sandy paste. My brother and I would scoff it down quickly in an attempt to remain undetected. I don't remember how successful we were in being discreet, but I do remember loving every mouthful! I also remember sneaking stock cubes out of the pantry and taking a whole day to slowly eat one, nibbling off a tiny piece and spreading it around the top of my mouth with my tongue, the salty, beefiness somehow addictive...luckily I have given up this habit.

My husband and I are both in our late 20's and have never really done any travelling. Living in Australia can make it hard (and expensive) because everything is so far away. In March 2010 we will be moving to London for hubby's work, so we'll have no excuse to not go and explore the world. Leaving all our friends and family on the other side of the world will definitely have its challenges, although I do have some family over there, so it will be good to get to see them a bit more often than the occasional wedding or Christmas.

ABOUT LIDIA
Food, glorious food. I can talk about food all day. I love cooking it, eating it, and seriously, even just talking about it. I am always watching cooking shows or reading through a cookbook or magazine, thinking about my next dinner party or trying out some new technique. I may not be the best cook, but I do consider myself reasonably adventurous. I am only limited by my imagination, and my husband's palate!

I also get a lot of enjoyment out of knitting when I get the chance, and have a lot of ideas to do things, but hardly have the time to sit down and finish anything. At the moment, my big project is a renovation that we are undertaking.

I was lucky enough to be taught how to cook by a few inspirational women. Firstly, my grandmother, who looked after me a lot while I was growing up. I stood by her side, and took in as much as I could. Unfortunately now, her memory and health aren't as good as they used to be, so I dedicate my cooking to her. I also learnt a lot from my mum and my Aunt who have kept me cooking. I find it flattering that they now ask me for cooking advice, even though they have 30 years more cooking experience than me.

I've been married for three years, recently moved from a tiny apartment into a large house that needs some cosmetic work, and love where I work. I only wish there were a few more hours in the day!

LAMB MONDAY AND BEYOND
We decided that a great way to keep in touch would be to start this blog. We both have an obsessive interest in food and it probably constitutes 90% of our conversations and bores our other dinner guests. We have been dining at eachothers houses every week for the past year, in a tradition that became known as 'Lamb Monday'. It was originally a novel way to embrace our Aussie-ness by having a good dose of lamb and prevent any Mondayitis, but steadily became the weekly highlight. We are both deeply sad to have to give this tradition up. So this blog will have take its place, allowing us to both keep in touch and continue to share our passion for cooking.
